Promise 1 (Hebrews 11v8-10)
- Abraham promised a place – Canaan
- His immediate obedience – an outward sign of an inward faith
- His struggles of faith – tent living and detour to Egypt
- Abraham looked forward to the ultimate promised place (New Jerusalem)
Promise 2 (Hebrews 11v11-12)
- Abraham and Sarah promised a person (Isaac)
- Their ages meant a dependent faith
- Their struggles with faith – laughter an outward sign of an inward doubt
- Isaac pointed forward to the ultimate promised person (Jesus)
Applications
- Christians are strangers on this earth
- Salvation is through faith not works
- We should not be surprised if we have anxious moments but instead be strengthened by God’s word. Romans 4v18-21.
